New to Kaohsiung and having only been in operation for a couple of months now, “Hey, go for ice” is a small place specialising in (shock), shaved ice.
Whilst the space inside is small, it’s that nice kind of small where it still feels friendly.
In addition to the window seats, there are 6 more tables inside.
Cheese Cake
$60/slice
Solid cheese cake. Dense, delicate vanilla flavour.
Lemon Ice
檸檬清冰
níng méng qīng bīng
$55
Watching this being made, there was A LOT of sugar put onto the dish. I am fine with it being sweetened, but this was bordering on excessive amounts.
The ice, however, was incredibly refreshing and reminded me of Italian lemon granita. High scores all around.
Seasonal Ice
季節冰品
Jì jié bīng pǐn
$130
I loved watching the melon dish take form.
The ice cream on top is a plum ice cream from a popular ice cream shop just round the corner.
The melon is sweet and strong in flavour, the ice inside cleanses the pallete nicely and the chewy tapioca balls are an interesting texture addition. Drizzled with carnation (evaporated) milk is a naughty (but welcomed) addition.
