Taipei breakfast – 味鼎蛋餅 WeiDing DanBing

Any self respecting westerner reading this knows the key to Taiwan breakfasts – 蛋餅.

蛋餅 is the gateway breakfast to the elusively incredible 燒餅, but that’s for another day.

So we only ordered a couple of 蛋餅’s and 2 drinks, so this post isn’t going to be long.

Salty soy milk (only a little chilli)
鹹豆漿 (小辣)$40

Perhaps not for the faint-hearted, as I have previously eluded to in previous posts. It looks disgusting, I will give you that (If you don’t think it does – then you’re a beauty!).

Anyway, sugar-free soy milk meets egg, tiny little shrimp, deep fried dough sticks, and some cheeky chilli oil to finish it all off. Still sound gross? Give it a go, it’ll change your life (strong call, I know).

鮪魚蛋餅 $50
Tuna DanBing

豬扒蛋餅 $80
Pork DanBing

We also ordered a rather unremarkable soy peanut drink, too.

If you’re in the market for one of the slightly chewier DanBing’s that (IMO) plague breakfast stores around the city, then this is a good place.

The pork was tasty enough, but the chilli sauce helped lift it to a higher plane. Worth ordering without the chilli? Perhaps not.
I am a big fan of some tuna mayo stuffed inside a DanBing, normally. However, this was quite watery… It could’ve been the salad, or it could have been the not-drained-enough tuna.

Recently moved out to Taiwan and don't know how to order at restaurants? I got you sorted. Can read some characters but still don't quite know what you're ordering? I got you sorted. This site has been developed to help people who can't speak or read Mandarin. I use pinyin, characters and English to talk about food ordering, and how you can do it at specific restaurants. If you like it, then give me a shout! Ash.
