Taipei restaurant – Chen Xin Yi Spicy Wantons 陳新一酸辣抄手

Updated March, 2023

Updated to reflect menu changes and price changes

Chen Xin Yi Spicy Wantons offers some wontons drizzled with spicy and sour sauce. Who doesn’t love a good wanton? I mean, really, how many times have you been to that awesom red and white wanton shop and ordered their 紅油抄手? Yeh, I know, I’ve done it countless times, too. But sometimes, you want to swtich it up. And here’s a place that can help you do that.

Alright so let’s break this down. Sticky rice dumplings are one of my favourites, and this one was pretty good. No frills, just meat and rice.
What we ordered at Chen Xin Yi Spicy Wantons:
酸辣大炒手 ($110) Spicy wantons
Yes, yes, and yes again. Spicy sauce meets big wantons, plenty of meat, and a bit of veg on the side. The sauce was spicy, but if you’re a hot head you may want another spoonful of spice. Conversely, if you’re not that into spice, I do still think you’d be OK with these.

肉燥燙青菜 ($50) Boiled veg with meat sauce
Fine, it’s just veg.

上海鮮肉粽 ($70) Shanghainese Sticky Rice Dumpling
Solid, to be fair. Tasty, sticky, no frills. I wouldn’t run back specifically for this one, but I also wouldn’t kick it off my plate if it so fell there. If you are also a fan of rice dumpling, you can also give Lan Family’s GuaBao ago.

Bottom line?

Yeh, I’d go to Chen Xin Yi Spicy Wantons again if I was in the area and wanting something hot. However, 9 times out of 10 I would probably prefer to go for these cold noodles, instead of Chen Xin Yi Spicy Wantons.
