Taipei dessert – 佳佳甜品 Kai Kai Desserts

Kai Kai is killing it in Taiwan. Originally from HK, this highly acclaimed dessert shop has branched out to Taiwan, bringing sesame soup, walnut soup, and taro lotus seed soup. If this sounds interesting, then read further and check out the pics. If it doesn’t, then check out my other post about matcha green tea desserts, tiramisu at Divino’s, or Taiwanese breakfast dessert at Gen Creative. There’s something in Taipei for everyone!

The menu isn’t that big, really. Due to the season, all desserts are hot (got me craving cold sesame soup).
I think it resembles a hospital canteen, but there you go…

I’d have gladly had a bit of everything, but I will be honest – it isn’t particularly inexpensive here. So, we resided to have a bowl each, and come back in summer for something cold.

Our first bowl coming to fruition – the half and half.

So, it seems that you can have half a bowl of one option, and the other half can be a different option. I was sceptical, as really they will just merge into one another, right?

Seems it did. And, to be honest, it doesn’t look appetising. But that’s nothing that a bit of mind over matter can’t sort out.

芋頭西米露 taro with sago 跟 蓮子紅豆沙 lotus seed with red bean $100

Both tasted great, by themselves, but I wouldn’t recommend getting the 1/2 and 1/2 that we did. Be prepared – it is a big bowl!

The red bean and lotus seed one had a nice earthy sweetness to it, and the taro with sago had a nice texture and sweetness to it.

芝麻糊 $100

This is what I came for. Tar. Treacle. Marmite. Whatever it reminds you of, let it all out. But, really, this was delicious. It was mildly sweet, it was fragrantly sesame flavoured, it was earthy, it was nutty, it was grainy and also smooth at the same time. I’ll be back again for this, that’s for sure. A high recommendation to order this.
