Time for a refit? Well, maybe not. This restaurant is probably going more for the &#8216;old-school&#8217; vibe, and does it well. Definitely up there with <a href=\"http:\/\/eatingintaipei.com\/2018\/06\/01\/taipei-city-1-michelin-starred-golden-formosa-%e9%87%91%e8%93%ac%e8%90%8a%e9%81%b5%e5%8f%a4%e5%8f%b0%e8%8f%9c%e9%a4%90%e5%bb%b3\/\">Golden Formosa&#8217;s<\/a> MaPo Tofu for the best I have had (so far) in Taiwan.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Three flavours of chicken<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u4e09\u5473\u96de\u00a0s\u0101n w\u00e8i j\u012b<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">$600-800<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10398\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/eatingintaipei.com\/staging\/5148\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/dsc08557.jpg?resize=4912%2C3264&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"DSC08557\" width=\"4912\" height=\"3264\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Yes, the black chicken is a little bit disconcerting, but once you get over the colour difference, you&#8217;ll find that not much else is different in flavour or texture. The skin of this chicken has a smooth and chewy texture and flavour manages to cling to it, I ended up eating way more than I had anticipated!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The chicken is succulent, the meat is plentiful, the flavours are fresh and strong, and I highly recommend getting a big plate of this for the table.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">BBQ sauce fried pigs heart<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u6c99\u8336\u8c6c\u5fc3\u00a0sh\u0101 ch\u00e1 zh\u016b x\u012bn<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>$420<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10397\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/eatingintaipei.com\/staging\/5148\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/dsc08559.jpg?resize=4912%2C3264&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"DSC08559\" width=\"4912\" height=\"3264\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Weird enough to raise an eyebrow, but tasty looking enough on the menu to warrant an order. I am very glad that we ordered it. The BBQ sauce was light (contrary to the heavy look) and tasty, with a good amount of saltiness and BBQ flavour running through. The heart itself was sliced very thinly and clearly only stir-fried for a short amount of time as it managed to remain soft and delicate, avioding the rubbery texture that this can often have.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Braised intestines<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u6ef7\u5927\u8178\u00a0l\u01d4 d\u00e0 ch\u00e1ng<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>$298<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10395\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/eatingintaipei.com\/staging\/5148\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/dsc08564.jpg?resize=4912%2C3264&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"DSC08564\" width=\"4912\" height=\"3264\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Similar to the braised intestines from <a href=\"http:\/\/eatingintaipei.com\/2018\/06\/01\/taipei-city-1-michelin-starred-golden-formosa-%e9%87%91%e8%93%ac%e8%90%8a%e9%81%b5%e5%8f%a4%e5%8f%b0%e8%8f%9c%e9%a4%90%e5%bb%b3\/\">Golden Formosa<\/a>, there&#8217;s inevitably an element of rich fattyness to these that I find (sadly) irresistable.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Hulled shrimp rolls (encased in squid)<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u8766\u4ec1\u5377\u00a0xi\u0101 r\u00e9n ju\u01cen<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10396\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/eatingintaipei.com\/staging\/5148\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/dsc08562.jpg?resize=4912%2C3264&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"DSC08562\" width=\"4912\" height=\"3264\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Why they feel they need to tell the readers of the menu that the shrimp are hulled is beyond me. I should damn well hope they are, otherwise it would make these unneccesarily crunchy and nasty.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10393\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/eatingintaipei.com\/staging\/5148\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/dsc08566.jpg?resize=4912%2C3264&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"DSC08566\" width=\"4912\" height=\"3264\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Shrimp with cucumber is encased in squid and sliced up resembling sushi rolls. It was good, but not the greatest. I don&#8217;t feel like a dollop of mayonnaise is enough for this to go with as an accompaniment, either. So, damn, good. I had two bowls, it was just that good! The chicken oil had been infused with garlic and other herbs, making it pop with freshness and flavour. The skin was deliciously delicate and crunchy, and not too greasy, either. Full of a fresh earthy flavour, the bamboo doesn&#8217;t lose its crunchy texture through long cooking, and sweet flavours permeate through the soup from the bamboo, itself.
