I say, hit it head on and take it as a good chance to eat lots, as you\u2019re going to burn it off throughout the day, anyway (hopefully).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">The Taiwanese breakfast is something to behold, they really push the boat out on all fronts. Between 06:00 and 11:00, I challenge you to walk more than 250m down any main street in Taipei without stumbling across a breakfast shop. But, without speaking Chinese, you could be faced with a problem. What do you order? What is that dish you just pointed at and said \u201c1\u201d gingerly?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">Guide: Chinese tones are difficult, but go slowly and pronounce them word by word. The shop owner will not mind!<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align:center;\">1st tone \u2014<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">This is a flat high tone, like saying eeee .<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align:center;\">2nd tone\u00a0 \u2044<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">This is one that will go up like how an Australian speaks in almost every single sentence. But, seriously, try going up in the second half of the word.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align:center;\">3rd tone\u00a0\u221a<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">This is the tone that dips down, and comes back up, like an inverted mountain. Try saying the first half of the word by going down, and the second half of the word rise the tone up a bit.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align:center;\">4th tone \\<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">This is why everyone thinks Chinese is an angry language and that everyone is always arguing. This tone only goes down. Be angry with it!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h1 style=\"text-align:center;\"><b><u>My picks on what to eat<\/u><\/b><\/h1>\n<h2 style=\"text-align:center;\">Fried Dough Stick inside pastry bread<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">\u71d2\u9905\u6cb9\u689d\u00a0sh\u0101o b\u01d0ng y\u00f3u ti\u00e1o<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10586\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/eatingintaipei.com\/staging\/5148\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/dsc01476-01.jpg?resize=2555%2C4332&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"DSC01476-01\" width=\"2555\" height=\"4332\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">In all honesty, I am not a huge fan of this. But, some people swear by it. This fried dough stick wrapped in a pastry is filling, cheap (around $40), and tasty. But, I would recommend getting the pastry bread with egg and cheese, instead &#8211; \u71d2\u9905\u52a0\u8d77\u53f8\u86cb\u00a0sh\u0101o b\u01d0ng ji\u0101 q\u01d0 s\u012b d\u00e0n. This is basically a cheesey omelet inside a crunchy pastry &#8211; win.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align:center;\"><strong>Fried radish cake<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">\u863f\u8514\u7cd5 lu\u00f3 bo g\u0101o<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10592\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/eatingintaipei.com\/staging\/5148\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/dsc01519-01.jpg?resize=4912%2C3264&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"DSC01519-01\" width=\"4912\" height=\"3264\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">Arguably more Cantonese than traditionally Taiwanese, fried radish cake is a breakfast staple served up all over the island. Radish is mixed with some meat and flour, then pressed into a \u2018brick\u2019. Slices are fried up with an egg and served with a thick soy sauce or spicy chilli sauce.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">TimHoWan near Taipei Main Station does an awesome radish cake, as does <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/GWxFMmmu4XVSRgwQ6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">World Soy Milk King<\/a> in YongHe, and the one pictured is from <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/ufbk3a8iofA2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Delisoys <\/a>in the Eastern Area near ZhongXiao FuXing MRT station.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">A good alternative is also this, from World Soy Milk King, Yonghe: Shredded radish with egg <strong>\u863f\u8514\u7d72\u9905\u52a0\u86cb lu\u00f3 bo s\u012b b\u01d0ng ji\u0101 d\u00e0n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10593\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/eatingintaipei.com\/staging\/5148\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/dsc01472-01.jpg?resize=4313%2C2947&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"DSC01472-01\" width=\"4313\" height=\"2947\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">This is my go-to snack whenever I am in the area, with lashings of chilli sauce.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align:center;\"><strong>Egg pancake<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">\u86cb\u9905 d\u00e0n b\u01d0ng<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><b>Bacon, cheese and egg<\/b> (\u57f9\u6839\u8d77\u53f8\u86cb\u9905 p\u00e9i g\u0113n q\u01d0 s\u012b d\u00e0n b\u01d0ng) all wrapped together in a scallion pancake and fried together, what\u2019s not to love? Alternatively, choose another flavour:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><b>Plain (with just egg) <\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">\u539f\u5473\u86cb\u9905 yu\u00e1n w\u00e8i d\u00e0n b\u01d0ng,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><b>Cheese <\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">\u8d77\u53f8\u86cb\u9905 q\u01d0 s\u012b d\u00e0n b\u01d0ng<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">or<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><b>Tuna <\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">\u9baa\u9b5a\u86cb\u9905 w\u011bi y\u00fa d\u00e0n b\u01d0ng.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/eatingintaipei.com\/staging\/5148\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/e693b7e58f96.png?resize=424%2C234&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\u64f7\u53d6.PNG\" width=\"424\" height=\"234\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/bg1xxrdZRbM2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Loco food<\/a> does a brilliant egg pancake stuffed with tuna and sweetcorn. The outside is really crispy and the inside still a little soft. But, really, you can get these at almost any breakfast store. I enjoy mine with lots of chili sauce, washed down with an ice-cold soy milk.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">Also, Laya burger does a good wholemeal one that&#8217;s chewier than most others, with a variety of different fillings you can add.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align:center;\"><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align:center;\"><strong>Rice wrap\/roll<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">\u98ef\u7cf0 f\u00e0n tu\u00e1n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10591\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/eatingintaipei.com\/staging\/5148\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/dsc01511-01.jpg?resize=4912%2C3264&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"DSC01511-01\" width=\"4912\" height=\"3264\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">Notice a theme, here? Taiwanese breakfasts are heavy on those stodgy goodies that we all hate to love! The rice wrap\/ball is no different. Different in almost every place you go to, a simple pad of rice is stuffed with goodness and either rolled into a ball or a sausage-like shape. You can go sweet or savoury, either way, I am confident that you won\u2019t be disappointed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">There&#8217;s a very popular rice wrap stall at Ning Xia nightmarket but I found it lacking in flavour. This one from Delisoys do a good pork floss and dough stick one, and some places will offer up both savoury, and also sweet ones.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align:center;\"><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align:center;\">Soy milk<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">\u8c46\u6f3f d\u00f2u ji\u0101ng<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10589\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/eatingintaipei.com\/staging\/5148\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/dsc01496-01.jpg?resize=3264%2C4912&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"DSC01496-01\" width=\"3264\" height=\"4912\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">I really like Delisoys &#8216;healthy&#8217; fried dough stick, paired with this sugar-free soy milk. A Taiwanese tradition is to dunk the dough stick into the soy milk, or even into an almond milk. Both are delicious, and I strongly recommend you to try it!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">Above are just some of my picks.
