It&#8217;s relatively small in comparison to Taipei, has a slower feel to it, has fresh air, and is coastal. You&#8217;d be wrong. We ordered a huge meal between 5 of us, washed down with a couple of big bottles of Lemon juice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8976\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/eatingintaipei.com\/staging\/5148\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/dsc02472.jpg?resize=4000%2C2657&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"DSC02472\" width=\"4000\" height=\"2657\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">OK, it&#8217;s not expertly presented, but it definitely did the job for us.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8983\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/eatingintaipei.com\/staging\/5148\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/dsc02481.jpg?resize=4000%2C2657&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"DSC02481\" width=\"4000\" height=\"2657\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">We ordered some of the stewed food selection \u6ef7\u5473\u62fc\u76e4 ($150) and a plate of vegetables \u5feb\u7092\u6642\u83dc ($100). The stewed food selection consisted of tofu, pork, seaweed and egg. It was fine, but I won&#8217;t say it is a\u00a0<em>must eat<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8984\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/eatingintaipei.com\/staging\/5148\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/dsc02483.jpg?resize=2656%2C3999&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"DSC02483\" width=\"2656\" height=\"3999\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">We had to order a plate of the fried rice \u8089\u7d72\u86cb\u7092\u98ef ($60), and glad we did so. Flecks of onion, pork, egg, carrot. The rice wasn&#8217;t amazing, but the flavour of the fried rice was good, and accompanied the lamb very nicely.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8978\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/eatingintaipei.com\/staging\/5148\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/dsc02474.jpg?resize=2656%2C3999&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"DSC02474\" width=\"2656\" height=\"3999\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The potato leaves were littered with garlic, giving it the feeling of it being fresh. It tasted pretty good, albeit a little oily.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8979\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/eatingintaipei.com\/staging\/5148\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/dsc02476.jpg?resize=2656%2C3999&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"DSC02476\" width=\"2656\" height=\"3999\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I always eat more of this than I should. This is a chilli preserved radish side dish. Eat it with basically anything, but beware &#8211; it is salty (and spicy).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8980\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/eatingintaipei.com\/staging\/5148\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/dsc02477.jpg?resize=2656%2C3999&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"DSC02477\" width=\"2656\" height=\"3999\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">This bowl of noodles \u4ec0\u9326\u7092\u9eb5 ($90) had pretty much everything including liver, squid, clams, meatballs, fish balls, and the kitchen sink. Unpretentious, insipidly coloured, but it had fresh and honest flavours, with decent enough noodles to boot.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8977\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/eatingintaipei.com\/staging\/5148\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/dsc02473.jpg?resize=4000%2C2657&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"DSC02473\" width=\"4000\" height=\"2657\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Probably the most well executed dish of the day &#8211; lamb. Stir fried lamb with a Chinese barbecue sauce \u5feb\u7092\u7f8a\u8089 ($200). A little greasy, yes, but all lamb is. Tasty? Yes. Highly recommend? Yes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8981\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/eatingintaipei.com\/staging\/5148\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/dsc02478.jpg?resize=2656%2C3999&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"DSC02478\" width=\"2656\" height=\"3999\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Jia Shing are known for their still lemonade, but this is one of their new flavours: Kumquat lemonade \u91d1\u5409\u6ab8\u6aac\u6c41 ($55). Less sour than the original lemonade, and deep citrusy flavours coming out all over the place &#8211; deliciously refreshing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8982\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/eatingintaipei.com\/staging\/5148\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/dsc02479.jpg?resize=3264%2C4912&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"DSC02479\" width=\"3264\" height=\"4912\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">This is the classic still lemonade ($110) that people flock from all over Hualien, and further afield, to get. It&#8217;s sour, it&#8217;s lip-smacking, it&#8217;s refreshing, it&#8217;s actually pretty damn good.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">This place is a drive out of Hualien city center itself, however, more than worth the drive. 25 mins drive south is the ChiShingTan scenic area that&#8217;s very popular, too.
