When you think of Hot Springs around Taipei, you think of BeiTou. But, JiaoXi is also a place you should be thinking about. Less than an hours drive out of Taipei and under an hour on the bus from City Hall, JiaoXi is right nextdoor to Yilan City on the East coast.<\/p>\n

Hotels and hot springs galore around here! \u98ef\u5e97 means hotel, and \u6eab\u6cc9 means hot spring. And this signpost is just outside of the railway station. We took the train when we came, taking under 1hr30mins.<\/p>\n

But, we were here for 1 reason…<\/p>\n

MU Hotel<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/h1>\n

New on the block, MU hotel is enormous!<\/p>\n

It’s so big, that it is spread over 2 hotels. This ‘Reserve’ hotel is the hot spring part that we went to, first, as we weren’t staying overnight.<\/p>\n

The lobby is very simple, but we got directed to a separate lobby specifically for the hot spring rooms.<\/p>\n

ONSEN<\/strong> is the hotels Hot Spring resort at the MU Hotel.<\/p>\n

The room itself was very large, and more than enough for our\u00a02 hour\u00a0<\/strong>stay. We booked the room for 2 hours, which includes use of all of the amenities inside.<\/p>\n

At least the air quality is a little better in JiaoXi, meaning that sitting outside is an actual possibility.<\/p>\n

The hot spring itself is also vast, with 3 windows surrounding the hot spring tub itself.<\/p>\n

A hell of a long list. The short of it: Health Problems? Don’t get in.<\/p>\n

After our soak in the hot spring, quick relax on the balcony with a coffee and then a quick shower before we left our peaceful bliss. After all, lunch was a-calling!<\/p>\n

MU table<\/a> is located in the opposing building from the ‘Reserve’ complex where the hot springs are.<\/p>\n

The space is big and open, and very bright.<\/p>\n

There is also plenty of seating inside.<\/p>\n

I thought the sushi here was markedly better than other buffet sushi bars I have been to.<\/p>\n

The shrimp were fresh and the mussels were great, too. Those octopus took me quite a lot to muster the courage to pop one in my mouth, but when I did I was more than happy that I did so. I went back for a second helping, that’s for sure.<\/p>\n

This was also a personal highlight of the buffet service – sesame boiled kidney with pigs blood cake.<\/p>\n

The ingredients are boiled up together and it’s delicious.<\/p>\n

They also have a beef noodle soup and additional veggie and pork gravy bowl for you to enjoy freshly cooked to your liking, too.<\/p>\n

The ribs were ok, but perhaps too soft. The ones at Salt Lick in Hualien<\/a> are still setting the bar to beat, for me.<\/p>\n

Worth the price? I think so, yes.<\/p>\n

Yes, it is expensive for Taiwan. But, the ingredients appeared fresh, they were tasty, and they were well put together. The atmosphere was nice and clean, spacious, and quiet. I’d happily return.<\/p>\n
