This Hakka restaurant-Garden B has been in YongHe for a number of years and is constantly packed with people. Serving up delicious Hakka food in a simplistic style.
We had to start with a selection of Small plates 小菜 xiǎocài
Sweet taro, green beans and tiny spicy fish
冰糖芋頭, 乾煸四季豆, 辣炒小魚
bīngtáng yùtou, gān biān sìjì dòu, là chǎo xiǎo yú
Chicken soup with pak choi
白菜燉雞湯 bái cài dùn jī tāng
$1,600
You shouldn’t come to Garden B without ordering this monstrous bowl of chicken soup, packed to the brim with pak choi, pork and giant pieces of buttery chicken.
The chicken manages to hold itself firm until you get it out of the bowl, then it just falls apart at the slightest touch. It’s really pretty damn good. Also need to pre-order at Garden B.
Ignorance is bliss if you’re thinking about how many calories are in this soup, I feel. It is very rich and very buttery. I would gladly drink bowl after bowl. But, I think if you left it to go cold it would probably solidify!
Salty, juicy, delicious. A great addition to this already jam-packed soup bowl.
Fatty amazing pork (pre-order required)
冰糖蹄膀 bīngtáng tí páng
$980
I’ll just let you soak into that picture before talking about it…
…I suppose I should say something. But, what is there to say – It’s a vegans nightmare?
The sheer size of this piece of pork leg is a thing to marvel at. Definitely make sure there are like 8+ people at the table with you, otherwise, you can’t do this justice. Also, don’t be scared of chowing down on some of that fat – the rock sugar used in the cooking method has made it unbelievably creamy and tender at Garden B.
Special sweet and sour fish
紅燒黃魚豆腐 Hóngshāo huángyú
$1000
Not the for faint-hearted, but definitely for the hungry amongst you. Expect to find plenty of meat under the skin of this ugly looking fish. Make sure to chow down on that juice soaked tofu, too, for sure! Sweet, slightly spicy, deliciously addictive. Win!
