This Xie Xie BBQ Neihu restaurant looks like it’s been taken directly from an 80’s Taiwanese TV drama. The red and green LEDs, thoughtfully laid out interior, and silver trays make this Neihu restaurant a vibe in itself. But pair that with legitimately tasty Taiwanese BBQ classics like chicken wings, pig blood cake, and fish tempura paste, and you’ve got your next favourite Taiwanese BBQ hangout.

Translating to ‘Thank you’ in Chinese, Xie Xie has the laid-back feel of year-round Moon Festival BBQ vibes, in an old-school Taiwanese setting.

3 Fast Tips on How to Order in Taipei Restaurants like a definitive pro!

The Menu at Xie Xie BBQ Neihu

Xie Xie BBQ Neihu menu is presented on an orange background with simple text. No pictures here, just Chinese characters.

The menu is basically the same as walking up to any braised food market stall and ordering, or like many hot pot restaurants, too. You can expect classics like chicken feet, chicken heart, chicken wings, fish paste tempura, green beans, pig blood cake, green pepper, and many types of tofu. We pretty much ordered one of everything, so take a look below to see what you'll choose on your first (or next) visit.

Ordering is simple here, with everything laid out in front of you, and all of it pretty straightforwardly presented, too.

Point at what you want, and they will take it straight over to the coals and barbecue it up real nice for you. There's great care and attention paid to the cooking process, with the barbecue masters really taking their time to carefully rotate each skewer to absorb plenty of flavour, without burning.

While everything was delicious, I particularly enjoyed the tofu skin and the chicken skin. The tofu skin was amazingly crunchy and crispy on the outside, but still retained juicy tofu-goodness on the inside. It wasn't greasy in any way, but instead brought smoky BBQ flavours in abundance.

The chicken skin was similarly crispy, but came with a fatty chicken flavour that simply pops in your mouth. Smothered with their signature barbecue sauce - a combination of savoury saltiness, mild sweetness, and lots of mellow spices - these skewers are well worth ordering.

Don't overlook the chicken leg just because it's not a skewer, though, it's also delicious! The crispy skin gives way to a juicy and flavourful chicken leg within, and pairs with that mildly sweet n' spicy dipping sauce.

I encourage all of you to get a jar of this to take out with you. Either you can store it until Moon Festival, or you can do yourself a favour and use it to fry up some thinly sliced pork belly from your local supermarket, then pair it with some stir-fried cabbage and a bowl of rice - winner.

    The Bottom Line

Is it worth it? Yes, Xie Xie BBQ Neihu is definitely worth it. It's in a convenient location right near the MRT, and has pretty much something for everyone.

What is the best dish? I think one of the best skewers here is the tofu skin. I don't often go to a Taiwanese BBQ restaurant and come away thinking that the tofu was one of the best things, but it firmly stood out for me. As far as Neihu restaurants go, I'd say it's one of my favourites for the CP value.

Are there other places like this? There are many places offering up Japanese BBQ in Taipei, but I'd say that this is some of the best food in Neihu.

    Where is it?
