cookie DPT

Taipei cafe – Cookie DPT, luxury that is worth every dollar!

Cookie DPT is one of those magical places that if you didn’t know existed before, you’ll be scheduling a next-day (if not a same day) visit after reading more about it here!

As you all know, I am always on the hunt for a good dessert. Most recently I have been to Pai Pai Cannoli for some awesome Cannoli goodness, I’ve eaten my fill of sweet soup dumplings in Nanjichang nightmarket, and had some incredible cinnamon rolls across the city. But, I wasn’t expecting this right here at Cookie DPT!

With so many different flavours available at any given time, these soft chewy cookies are buttery decadence personified. Whether you’re looking for some over-indulgence and death-by-chocolate, or whether you want a seasonal special such as a pumpkin spiced cookie, Cookie DPT has a bit of everything for you.

Cookie DPT is really something else. I’ve seen it all over Instagram looking incredible, decadent, and just a huge drool fest. But when I went to the store itself I was pleasantly humbled by the fact that it is just all about the cookies, all of the time.

You can even order from Cookie DPT on Foodpanda and have these amazing cookies delivered right to your door! How amazing life is.

Cookie DPT is a beautifully presented cafe in an unassuming back alley just off Zhongxhiao east road near Zhongxiao dunhua mrt station

The storefront is simple, clean, and it does the job.

Inside, the space is cosy, clean, and welcoming. There’s a coffee machine on the wall opposite, with an island of cookies in between. There’s a small seating area where you can sit in and quickly have a cup of coffee with the amazing cookies.

On the left wall inside is the menu.

Oh wow, how good do those cookies look? Is it me, though, or are you just so intrigued that you feel like you need to touch them just to make sure they’re actually real? It took all of my willpower to not touch them, to be honest…

So, I’ll be honest, you need to be ready to pay for these cookies. They don’t come cheap, at $120/cookie. But, trust me when I say that they are absolutely worth every penny!

Cookie DPT has a set number of cookies that they deem to be their stock cookies. But, what’s great about this specific place, is that they also have some specials that showcase both Taiwanese and seasonal ingredients. Below you can see the cookies that cookie DPT stocks as standard.

    What Did We Eat?

What struck me most about Cookie DPT was the sheer weight of the cookies. These things are heavy! I mean, they even look heavy. They also remind me a little bit of the ones I have previously tried in Amsterdam at Van Stapele Koekmakerij but like double the size. At $120 (the equivalent to $ 4 USD, or £ 3.25 GBP) you’d be forgiven for thinking that they are extortionately priced and definitely not worth it. But, you would be wrong.

I’ve been here a whole bunch of times, but sometimes the atmosphere gets to me and I inhale the cookies before having a chance to take a picture. However, this time I managed to show restraint.

They are worth absolutely every penny!

    Red velvet white chocolate

Now how good does this red velvet white chocolate cookie look? Don’t answer. I know. Amazing. It’s gooey, it’s fluffy, and it’s just everything that you would want from a cookie. The white chocolate oozes out of it as you bite into the warm cookie, with the slightly tangy red velvet flavour coming through, it matches with the (ordinarily) sweeter white chocolate and balances everything really nicely. It’s not sweet, it’s not sour, it’s not salty, it’s balanced. And that is the hallmark of an incredible cookie, folks.

    Salted Caramel

When I see salted caramel on any menu, I invariably go for it. There’s something addictive to the sweet-meets-savoury flavour for me. I have said it before, and I will definitely not shy away from saying it again.

This salted caramel was just what I didn’t know I was looking for. It was gooey, it was salty, it was caramelly, it was sweet, it was fluffy, and it was just bloody awesome. You really, really need to go here.

    Chocolate Peanut Butter

I love chocolate. I love peanut butter. I love cookies. I love chocolate peanut butter cookies. However, beware – these are not for the faint of heart. These cookies are wildly rich, as both chocolate and peanut butter tend to be richer flavours than most. You should expect dark chocolate flavours to be at the forefront of the flavour profile with the extra decadence of the peanut butter covering your tongue afterwards.

This cookie is best washed down with the espresso – to add an EXTRA layer of richness. As the cookie is just so rich, it needs something to cut through that richness.

    Oatmeal Raisin

Oatmeal – good. Raisin – good. Soft cookies from Cookie DPT – excellent. Oatmeal can be quite dry and end up being a little mealy, but I think that Cookie DPT has found an exceptional balance with these oatmeal raisin cookies. Soft, squidgy, crumbly, crunchy, fragrant, and spot-on.

    The Coffee

So I had a cheeky little espresso when I went there (my drink of choice wherever I go), but they also do some beautiful lattes and other coffee-based drinks, too. They do all of this on the incredible La Marzocco machine hiding there in the back.

Known internationally as an espresso machine that will reliably give you amazing cup after cup of consistently top-end espresso, La Marzocco know what’s what. Therefore, by extension, Cookie DPT also know what’s what by getting their hands on one of these older models, that looks in fantastic condition. Needless to say, the coffee was great.

    The bottom line

Was it worth it? Without a doubt, yes.
Will you go again? Without a doubt, yes.
Is it kid-friendly? This doesn’t even matter. It’s adult-friendly, and it makes amazing cookies. No kids allowed for me! But yes, it’s kid-friendly, I guess…
