If you’re in the mood for steak but don’t want to spend big for a fancy fillet or anything like that, then this could be the place for you.

What did we order?

On the menu we have things such as:

  • Sirloin – 沙朗 shā lǎng
  • Fillet – 菲力 fěi lì
  • Rib eye – 肋眼 lè yǎn

Chowder with bread and tea - free, otherwise I wouldn't bother.

Each table gets 2 pieces of bread per person, corn chowder, and a cup of iced tea. If these were a la carte, I wouldn’t touch them. But, as something that is delivered to your table, inclusive of the price of your steak, I duly obliged.

Taiwanese seem to go crazy for the A1 steak sauce. As a Brit, I don’t get it. I want some peppercorn sauce with mine, and very little else. I certainly do not want ketchup with my steak…

My wife opted to double up on eggs instead of rice or noodles with her steak. You want to do the same? Here’s what to say: 我的麵要改成蛋,謝謝 Wǒ de miàn yào gǎi chéng dàn, xièxiè. (I want to change my noodles to an egg.)

Truth be told, I still find it odd to get noodles or rice with my steak, so doubling up on eggs is something I was interested in. The steak arrived, and I actually thought it looked much bigger than 4.5oz, but it’s all in the thickness. It was a bit thinner than mine, but still pretty good.

When ordering, it is important to keep in mind that on the menu, you have the choice of steak with a Black pepper sauce 黑胡椒醬 hēi hú jiāo jiàng, Italian ragu sauce 義大利肉醬 yì dà lì ròu jiàng , or a mix of both of the sauces 綜合醬 zòng hé jiàng. We both opted for a mix of the sauces for our steak, and I didn’t mind it, actually.

10oz Sirloin, $260

The 10oz sirloin arrived sizzling on its plate, and I was content with my order. It was a bit thicker, there was plenty of sauce, and the smell was saliva-inducing.

It was really nicely cooked medium-rare (5分) and tasted great. The rice was fine, but I’d probably double up on eggs next time (as chips/fries is seemingly not an option here).

The bottom line

Would I go back? I’d definitely go back here, as $260 is a steal.

Is it suitable for a special occasion? No. Try A Cut or Le Blanc for a special occasion.
