M One Cafe Daan from the outside - the space is set quite deep into the building it occupies, with darkness on the outside lit from the inside with warm light.

The outside of M One Cafe Daan is set deep into the building, allowing a sense of intrigue when you are stood outside. However, if you find yourself walking around the area you will probably not even notice it in part because of the dark exterior and unassuming decor. It gets quite busy, make sure to book a table online in advance.

Upon walking inside you’ll be welcomed by warm lighting and generous space. The open kitchen makes it feel quite friendly, and the staff are very attentive, regularly refilling your water without the need for being prompted.

    What We Ordered

    Spinach Mushroom Eggs Benedict Set

M One Cafe spinach mushroom eggs benedict

One of my breakfast weaknesses is Eggs Benedict. There's just something about a muffin with a delicately poached egg carefully placed on top, a dollop of thick Hollandaise sauce coating it, and then being allowed to be ceremoniously burst open to drool over the plate. However, I have had plenty of disappointing experiences with Eggs Benedict, largely due to the consistency of the highly important Hollandaise sauce.

This particular Eggs Benedict was special because of the addition of mushroom and spinach. However, the worry in the back of my head was that both spinach and mushroom can sometimes be quite watery due to their high water content. I didn't want extra water bleeding into that important Hollandaise-egg yolk mix.

No such worry with the spinach and mushroom. The egg yolk was deep orange - indicating that it's probably responsibly sourced based on a diet rich in plants rather than grains. I am a big fan of this, as this kind of yolk allows for a much richer and deeper egg flavour. The muffin was nicely toasted, the mushrooms were well seasoned, the spinach gave a nice hit of freshness, the egg was perfectly cooked, and that Hollandaise sauce brought it all together perfectly.

    M One Cafe yogurt

All sets include a hash brown, yoghurt (with granola), fresh juice, and either a coffee or tea (refillable). This granola pleasantly surprised me as an included accompaniment with the set. It was really tasty. There was a significant crunch, the addition of cranberries gave a nice tart flavour, and the unsweetened yoghurt paired really nicely with everything.

    M One Cafe hash brown

Weirdly (or not), I had heard quite a bit about the hash browns here at M One Cafe Daan. I had specifically heard that they were both fluffy and crunchy at the same time, and really packed full of flavour. They certainly didn't disappoint. The hype was warranted. Seasoned really nicely, the crisp exterior of the hash brown contrasted really nicely with the fluffy interior. It's quite dense, so you feel like you're getting excellent value for money. I definitely hit mine up with some tomato ketchup and felt great doing so.

    M One Deluxe Omelette

We had to go for the Deluxe at M One Cafe Daan, simply because it had avocado, onion, mushroom, asparagus, bell pepper(s), tomato, ham, bacon, and cheese. It has pretty much everything inside that you'd want, and it didn't disappoint.

The texture was absolutely spot on. While it had plenty of fluffy egg texture, it was similarly airy and light. All of the ingredients running through and the toppings fit together nicely, bringing together a lovely omelette.

This side profile should give you a good idea of the denseness of the food that you're getting with M One Deluxe Omelette.

M One Cafe Daan really don't skimp on the potato in their hash browns. They cram it all in there.

    The Drinks

M One Cafe coffee guava juice

I can't order breakfast and exclude the coffee. Coffee plays a key part throughout my day, but most importantly in the morning. The coffee here was pretty good, and is refillable - winner!

The juice was pretty good as a refresher and a nice hit of fruit early in the morning, but I probably wouldn't order it by itself.

    M One Cafe sourdough

With the omelette set you can choose 1 of 5 possible accompanied breads: French toast, sourdough, croissant, wheat bread, or white bread.

You have to be going quite a way to beat some of the nicest croissants in Taipei in both The Antipodean and Supranormal Bakery, therefore I didn't choose to put my faith in M One Cafe Daan for the first visit. I went with sourdough, because it's not a regular feature on most menus.

The sour flavour came through really nicely in this delicious bread. $45 per slice is quite absurd, but included in the set I was happy to get it.

    Roast Beef Melt

I see roast beef on the menu, and a little light ignites within me. Of course I had to get it paired with wedges. Crunchy and soft bread encased copious amounts of roast beef slices, with red onion, tomato, lettuce, and grilled onions. It was really good.

The wedges were well seasoned, fluffy on the inside, and crunchy on the outside. A great choice.

    Richard's Spicy Mexican Omelette

    M one cafe Mexican omelet

M One Cafe Daan is known for their omelette's, so it seemed unfair to only order one in the M One Deluxe. Therefore we opted for the spicy Mexican one named after Richard (anyone know why?). Jalapenos, cheese, black beans, onions, tomatoes, and beef. All of those ingredients scream a delicious symphony of traditional Mexican flavours. Slap them inside a fluffy omelette, and you've got a delicious dish.

    The Bottom Line

Is it worth it? M One Cafe Daan is a place to save for one of those times where you want a filling, delicious, and well-priced breakfast to set you up for the day. Expect to leave feeling satiated and satisfied with the flavours.

What is the best dish? The most popular dish here is the omelette, but I would argue that their best dish is probably the Eggs Benedict, not only for that Hollandaise sauce, but the poached egg is spot-on.

Are there other places like this? There are plenty of brunch places dotted across Taipei, ones that spring to mind are The Antipodean, Supranormal Bakery, and also the chain store Komeda. However, I think that M One Cafe Daan does a great job at striking the right balance between variety, accompaniments (in their set meals), and price with each of their dishes. The fact that you can leave feeling very satisfied with all of the variety on offer is most certainly a positive.

    Where is it?
