Noges Kitchen brings a relaxed Japanese family-style atmosphere right next to the busy Keelung Road in Taipei City, a mere 5-minute walk from Liuzhangli Station. With specialities like Japanese fried chicken with tartar sauce, hamburger with demi-glace, and salmon with spicy miso, there’s no pretension or interpretive food here. It’s simple, it’s full of flavour, and it’s honest Japanese food.
It’s not difficult to find fantastic Japanese food in Taipei. From delicious sushi like Omakase Tomo, ramen at Katsuo ramen, or amazing fried beef fillet sandwiches at Katsu Yoshoku, the fantastic Japanese food Taipei has to offer is abundant. However, when you want a slightly more laid back family style Japanese meal where you might want some of that quintessential fried chicken you had on your most recent trip to Tokyo, but your friends want a fried pork cutlet, and your other friend wants curry, those kinds of speciality restaurants just won’t cut it. That’s where Noges Kitchen comes in.
You can expect a relatively small menu that focuses on the simple pleasures that Japanese food specialises in while being assured that it’s all still going to be tasty. Japanese food in Taipei doesn’t have to be complicated. 4-5 items on the menu, a relaxed atmosphere, and a mere 5 minutes from the MRT station? What’s not to love about that? Just a few steps from Liuzhangli MRT station and right next to the MRT Liuzhangli Station (Keelung Road) bus stop, Noges Kitchen waits with a muted outside and a brightly lit, yet comfortably wooden-clad inside. They have plants dotted here and there to break the colours up, and the overall place has a relaxed vibe, clearly taking the 'family' concept to heart.

The Menu at Noges Kitchen

The menu is incredibly simple and trilingual, too. For the Chinese, Japanese, and English readers out there, you can rest easy knowing what you are ordering. Noges Kitchen focuses on offering just a few main meals but concentrates on their quality.
What We Ordered
Chicken Nanban (Fried Chicken)

I see fried chicken on the menu, and I invariably order it. However, oftentimes around Taipei, it's that peppery salty Taiwanese fried chicken. Although I love that, it's nice to get some top-quality Japanese fried chicken every now and then, but what about this one from Noges Kitchen?
The Essential Guide to Taiwanese Fried Chicken in Taipei
Succulent, juicy, meaty, crunchy, superbly seasoned. It was top-quality Japanese fried chicken, and I would come back for it. It's not often that I get a tartare sauce in Taiwan, so I enjoyed the privilege of having it right here at Noges Kitchen. Known for its tangy, creamy, pickled flavour, tartare sauce's main ingredients are mayonnaise, capers, pickles, and lemon juice. Add some dill and a little dab of Dijon mustard for an extra level of decadence, and your tastebuds will sing. This tartare sauce was excellently balanced and paired so nicely with the crunchy exterior of the fried chicken.
Served with a drink, side salad, tamagoyaki egg, miso, daikon radish, and rice, this set was right on the money.
Hamburger Steak with Demi Glace

The concept of eating a hamburger without a bun was once alien to me. However, I have come to love the Japanese-style hamburger patty liberally doused with such a demi glace sauce as the one in the picture. Japanese-style hamburgers such as these are often incredibly juicy, and cooked to absolute perfection. This one at Noges Kitchen is served wth a side salad, sweet potato, and even some potato salad.

Also served as a set with the same accompaniments as the fried chicken above, I had drool pooling at the corner of my mouth when it was sat down in front of me. As I cut in there with my knife, the hamburger gave way and a whole aroma sprung out, spritzing the air with umami hamburger smells. It was juicy, it was oniony, and it went perfectly with the salty, well-balanced demi-glace sauce.
The Bottom Line
Is it worth it? If you're in the area and on the hunt for some humble food in a relaxed atmosphere, it's worth a shot, for sure.
What is the best dish? I don't often see Japanese fried chicken served with a tartare sauce and a salad such as this one. I think it has to be crowned the winner of the meal fr that reason.
