Double V ice cream perilla lemon litchi apricot

Taipei Restaurant – Double V Gelateria Serves the Best Gelato in Taipei

Double V is located right near RenAi Circle in the heart of Taipei. On YanJi Street, it is a 7-minute walk from Xinyi Anhe Station, exit 5, but even if it were 50 minutes, it would still be worth an investment of your time. Exuding understated elegance with a playful blue-and-white striped exterior, cosy lighting, and a sleek, dark wood façade throughout, the quirky revolving door that welcomes you in is just a hint at the creativity to come.

In a space where a glass-fronted gelato counter displays the day’s offerings, the carefully curated menu is written out on a charming chalkboard to the left of the space. The featured flavours change frequently, thoughtfully altered based on the weather, temperature, and seasonal ingredients. This approach highlights the team’s artistry and passion for gelato.

The shop has seating for about ten people, creating a cosy atmosphere with whimsical posters showcasing unique flavour pairings. Double V specialises in rotating seasonal flavours made from locally sourced fruits and honey-based gelato. While core flavours like vanilla, chocolate, and Alishan high mountain oolong tea are consistently available, others, such as tangerine, peanut, and praline, are offered less frequently. Each day, the shop presents 9 to 10 flavour choices from hundreds of possible combinations. Guests can mix and match two flavours in one cup, thanks to a bilingual menu that makes it easy to pair creamy gelatos with refreshing fruit sorbets.

    Doulble V outside

There’s just something endeering about the blue and white striped front here at Double V. The lighting is comforting, and the space, while quite small, appears airy. Important to note is that they do not have a lot of seats inside. Therefore, on some of the hot summer days that Taipei experiences, you may have to eat it outside without air conditioning.

If you aren’t sure how to order or what to do when you arrive at Double V, then this is the post for you. See below for How to Order in Taipei Restaurants like a definitive pro!

3 Fast Tips on How to Order in Taipei Restaurants like a definitive pro!

    The Menu at Double V

Double V takes Gelato and ice cream in Taipei seriously. They change their menu regularly to reflect only the freshest of ingredients. They adapt the ratio of their ingredients to account for temperature and humidity changes, too, showing the care and attention to detail that only the best Taipei desserts truly care about. From left to right you will see a 2024, then Christmas 2024, and then on the right you will see an April 2025 menu. The only common flavour on all 3 menus is their vanilla.

With a core set of around 500 flavours, Double V is leading the charge for artisanal ice cream and Gelato in Taipei. The passion is further evidenced in their tasting and information sessions that they hold each month, where you can taste and understand 6 of their different flavoured ice creams and gelato, with a staff member walking you through the processes and tasting notes - somewhat like what you'd do on a brewery tour.

From mulled wine kits, to baseball caps, Double V also offer additional products for you to buy. There are madeleines to pair with your ice cream, and they also do one hell of a good cup of coffee, too. There's a relaxed vibe here, where the staff aren't pushing you to order or buy additional items, but where you can take your time to choose exactly what you like, and even do some taste testing, too.

    Doulble V coffee

I am always checking out coffee machines when I see a nice cafe, so I was impressed to see the La Marzocco Linea mini working its magic. Known for the ability to bring pro-level espresso to any kitchen, and inspired by the iconic Linea Classic, this compact machine is sleek, durable, and handmade with commercial-grade parts. It’s built to deliver top-tier coffee for the long term, further highlighting Double V's dedication to top-quality products for their customers.

With 8 to 9 unique flavours available each day, hidden under the counter in giant ice cream tubs, smiles greet the gelato paddle as it comes out. With skill and a deft touch, each of the servers packs gelato into the cups, ensuring that it also looks beautiful when presented to you.

    Affogato

If you read my outpouring of admiration for the coffee machine above, you're probably unsurprised that I ordered an affogato. Served with that amazing vanilla gelato described below, the shot of espresso drizzled on top gives not only theatre but also nuances in texture and flavour, too. You can expect lots of smoky, rich bitterness that is combated by the mildly sweet and deeply vanilla-infused gelato.

I can only remember having a nicer affogato than this in Florence itself. Even this, right here, at Double V, challenges your belief of what a great Taipei affogato can be. This is fantastic, and well worth your order. Their vanilla gelato is made from Taiwanese-grown vanilla beans. This smooth treat has dark flecks and a hint of smokiness. When served in its own cup, it’s topped with crispy tuile cookies and layered with crunchy, fruit-infused meringue. The vanilla flavour is adjusted daily to match the temperature and humidity, attention to detail that you're unlikely to find anywhere else.

    Perilla Lemon Gelato

    Litchi Apricot Gelato

Double V's perilla lemon gelato offers an impressive combination of flavours that dance on your palate. The vibrant essence of perilla leaves infuses each scoop with a refreshing herbal note, perfectly balanced by the zesty lemon undertones. Complementing this delightful treat, the lychee-apricot flavour bursts with juicy sweetness, filling your mouth with a refreshing sensation that leaves you amazed and wanting more. Together, these flavour combinations create an irresistible experience that truly makes you feel like you’ve discovered a hidden gem.

    Peanut Gelato

    Tangerine Gelato

You may think that you'd find it difficult to determine what a tangerine tastes like without eating a tangerine. But not any more. Head to Double V and check out their tangerine flavour when it's on the menu, and you're hit in the face with that quintessential sweet, tangy, bright citrus aroma with those subtle floral notes. Slightly sweeter, less acidic than an orange, and carrying a slightly spiced or honeyed undertone, everything is mirrored excellently in this tangerine gelato.

Their peanut gelato, made from Tainong No. 11 peanuts, delivers a rich, nutty aroma and a slightly grainy texture. This specific peanut variety is known for its high omega-9 content, ensuring that not only do they add flavour, but health benefits, too.

    The Bottom Line

Is it worth it? Double V is most certainly one of the best places serving amazing Gelato in Taipei.

What is the best dish? I loved their perilla lemon flavour, but I also loved the peanut gelato, too. I don't have to choose, I can get 2 flavours in one cup. That's what I am doing if I see these two on the menu at the same time again.

Are there other places like this? There are some great places to get excellent ice cream in Taipei. Similarly, there's some great Gelato in Taipei, too. However, Double V is my favourite. What's more - it's right opposite one of my favourite pizzeria's, too - Pizzaround.

    Where is it?
