My name is Ash. I have been in Taiwan for almost 10 years now, and have lived in both Taipei and New Taipei City the whole time. I am obsessed with eating delicious food all over Taiwan, and I am willing to travel for it! But, what struck me when I first arrived in Taipei was the lack of English menus and the lack of English speakers in restaurants or eateries all over the city.
My Chinese journey
Since learning Chinese at NTNU’s Mandarin Training Center, I created my website to encourage people to walk into restaurants with the confidence of knowing what to eat, using both Pinyin and Chinese characters. I keep my ear to the ground on new and upcoming restaurants in Taipei, as well as those old-school classics that have stood the test of time.
Less about me, and more about Eating in Taipei
Founded in 2015, Eating in Taipei was first created through other blog platforms. In order to provide a better user experience, the site was re-branded from scratch in 2022. My site is perfect for tourists just passing through and wanting to eat some off-the-beaten-track Taiwanese food, or those of you living here and wanting to eat some incredible food while practising your Chinese in the process. I keep my posts light-hearted, I provide my honest opinion, and I try to be as thorough as possible with each and every post that I create.
If you enjoy reading the posts from us at Eating in Taipei, don’t forget to subscribe to the newsletter, I will send you the updated posts each week. Best of all, you will get the 20 must visit restaurants in Taipei, which are picked by us and already saved on Google Maps for you!
