Taipei Take Out – The Slice Shop Has the Best Pizza by the Slice in Taipei!

I recently found myself craving pizza in Taipei but didn’t want a whole pie. I couldn’t immediately think of a pizza shop that sells by the slice, so I quickly searched and stumbled across the incredible-looking The Slice Shop. This unassuming gem offers a rare find in the city: pizza by the slice. There’s no eat-in here, but they have a modest outside seating area/perching area for you to enjoy your slice (or 3) in relative comfort.

If you want ultimate pizza convenience, The Slice Shop even delivers right to your door. Check out their most up-to-date online menu and order direct here:

The Slice Shop Menu on Oddle

The Slice Shop specialises in authentic New York-style sourdough pizza, boasting a crispy crust and an airy yet chewy interior. Classic flavours like pepperoni, spicy sausage, and creamed spinach take centre stage, delivering a familiar experience that delivers great flavours. Whether you’re a solo diner seeking a quick bite or a group looking to share, The Slice Shop’s generous slices are sure to satisfy you.

The Slice Shop has quickly become a local favourite since its opening in 2022, with its laid-back atmosphere and mouthwatering pizza in Taipei. There are some amazing pizzas scattered throughout the city (Pizza Has a Face and Pizzaround are the first that come to my mind), but most of them sell the whole pie rather than a slice. So, if you’re tired of traditional Taiwanese pizza spots with unconventional flavours like Pizza Hut and Dominos, and if you’re yearning for a taste of the Big Apple, head to The Slice Shop and indulge in a slice of New York sourdough pizza right in the heart of Taipei.

    The Slice Shop outside

With just a couple of seats outside, you’re likely to have to enjoy your pizza standing up. Ultimately, this spot is aimed more towards the quick bite-at-lunch crowd. It does get busy, but as they are selling by the slice, the line moves quickly and people tend to eat on the go. Note that there aren’t any fans or AC options here, so if it’s a hot day then be prepared to sweat it out.

The Menu at The Slice Shop

    The Slice Shop menu

It's important to say that while the unique aspect of The Slice Shop is that they sell by the slice, you can absolutely still get either a 12 or 20-inch pie if you so desire. I'd recommend you work your way through the menu slice-by-slice first before deciding to commit to a whole pie, but all the slices we had were on point! I was driving on this day, otherwise, I would have loved to wash down some sourdough slices with a Taihu draft beer or two.

They have pizzas baking in the background on a continuous cycle, so what you see on offer through the window is not the end of the line of pizzas for the day. However, it's important to note that they are closed on Monday, and all other opening times are 11:30~14:00/17:00~21:00 (or til sold out). For those out there who desire something sweet to finish off their meal, (I hear you. I am with you), and they do some great-looking soft cookies, too!

    What We Ordered

We had to order a variety on our first visit here. We opted for pepperoni, creamed spinach, guanciale pineapple (white sauce), and margarita. A slice does come in a little over the average cost of a Taiwanese lunchbox, but if it offers that nostalgic delight of biting down into a sourdough-crusted pizza with delicate yet delicious toppings, then the price shouldn't even really be a factor.

The presentation of each slice is truly exceptional. Visually, the toppings are plentiful and varied, creating a feast for the eyes. This abundance ensures that every bite delivers a perfect balance without feeling repetitive or dull. The Margarita is a classic flavour that we probably all know and love, and this one here was a solid flavour. By now, we should all know what a Margarita tastes like, so I won't go into the details of it here. However, below are 3 fantastic options that you should consider if Margarita is not doing it for you.

    Pepperoni

I invariably get pepperoni when I eat pizza, especially when I eat the sourdough variant. There's just something about a rich, spicy pepperoni with the sourdough combo that does it for me. This offering was delightful. The beautiful oil ooze out of the pepperoni and mix in with the melted cheese and tomato base to create a wonderful flavour when you bite in. The crust is right up there with the best of them. Sourdough is where it's at, without question.

    Creamed Spinach

This is not a flavour I would normally choose, but it looked too good to pass up. The topping consists of creamed spinach, bacon bits or breadcrumbs, and nutmeg. When I saw nutmeg on the menu, I was surprised, but the fragrance is mild and well balanced by the creamed spinach and bacon bits. The textures here are fantastic. Some may worry that the creamed spinach mixed with the white sauce will become gloopy and make the sourdough crust soggy, but I assure you that there will be no soggy crusts here!

    Guanciale Pineapple (White Sauce)

The Slice Shop guanciale pineapple crust

I will not enter the debate over a Hawaiian pizza willingly. I enjoy the salty-sweet flavour combination, and that is all I will say about it.

This Guanciale pineapple with a white sauce base featured a Bechamel sauce base, cheese, and Guanciale (an Italian salt-cured meat product made from pork jowls or cheeks). Its name is derived from the word guancia, which means "cheek." Its rendered fat flavours and typically thickens pasta sauces), as well as dollops of pineapple puree.

Let me share my thoughts with you: it was a banging slice!

The sweet and tangy pineapple jam/sauce added a delightful burst of flavour that complemented the richness of the white bechamel sauce, which was enhanced by the salty, rich Guanciale. The combination of flavours and textures, all enhanced by a perfectly chewy yet crusty sourdough, made this dish a standout in my opinion.

    The Bottom Line

Is it worth it? Writing this up, I find myself craving another slice. Each slice was right on the money and balanced beautifully. Yes, it's worth it.

What is the best dish? I really enjoyed the Guanciale pineapple, but I also enjoyed the creamed spinach a lot, too. I would go back for these 2, easily.

Are there other places like this? There is plenty of great pizza in Taipei, but not many that sell by the slice. For lunch on the go or for a quick bite at dinner, The Slice Shop is hands-down a great option.
