Taipei's Transport System

Undeniably the most convenient place is Taipei Main Station. It is the transport hub of the city, where you can transfer for a train, bus, or MRT to the airport. (45 mins on MRT to Taoyuan airport). However, other places can offer slightly different things to Taipei Main Station, and those will also be included in this article. I will focus on hotels and hostels within the encircled area on the Taipei MRT map below. This is the central area of Taipei City where some of the best hotels, food, and attractions are located.

Types of Taipei Hotels

Whilst there are many types of Taipei Hotel, this article will focus on the following 3 that I have defined:

  1. Luxury hotel (5 stars)
    • These tend to be more expensive but come with superior facilities and exquisite tailored services.
  2. Mid-range hotel (3-4 stars)
    • These tend to be less expensive than 5-star hotels, not as comprehensively equipped, but still have everything required for a comfortable stay. 
  3. Budget hotel/Hostel
    • For those who want to save money and only need a base where they can sleep and shower, these places are perfect.

Which Area Should You Stay?

  • If you only have a limited time in Taipei, prioritize transport convenience - stay near Taipei Main Station
  • If you want to have a vibrant nightlife and stay in a convenient spot: Ximending 
  • If you want to experience the young and old vibe of the city: Zhongshan Area
  • If you want to get closer to the lungs of the city (Da'an Park) and enjoy exploring alleyway boutiques: Da'an Area
  • If you want to stay close to Taipei 101 and do some department store shopping: Xinyi Area
