ban mi in Yonghe

New Taipei City Restaurant (Yonghe) – Vietnamese Banh Mi越南會安黃城麵包 reasonable Bánh Mì Việt Thành Hoàng

Banh Mi is one of the best food option for summer or a quick meal. Yonghe is one of the most densely populated places on Earth – true story. So, with that in mind, there must be plenty of places to eat with so many mouths to feed. I have lived in the neighbourhood on and off for the last 8 years, and I can testify to the fact that there is some seriously good food around here. Are you in the area? Check out my other Yonghe eats here, or hold tight to read more about this spot just behind Dingxi MRT station.

Alternatively, if you aren’t in the area, then you can still get your Banh Mi fix through Ubereats right here, but be aware that it may be a little more expensive than the pictures below show.

Yonghe has many great options for food, and this store behind Dingxi MRT is just one option of many.

So the perennially crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside Banh Mi is a genuine thing of beauty. So far, the best ones I have had in Taipei have been from this spot in Tianmu. But this one right here behind Dingxi MRT station is a solid New Taipei City option.

The bread – Somewhat crispy on the outside, and fluffy yet chewy on the inside. It was good, but might have benefitted from being eaten right there and then, to maximise crunchiness, at least.

The filling – At first I was confused, as I have never seen a Banh Mi with a filling of Korean Kimchi, Thai satay flavoured beef, accompanied by the classic salad and pickles that adorn many Banh Mi. I still remain unconvinced by it, but it’s worth a go if you like heavier flavours. It wasn’t delicate, that’s for sure, but it wasn’t offensive, either.

會安豬肉麵包

The bread – Exactly as above ^ Somewhat crispy on the outside, and fluffy yet chewy on the inside. It was good, but might have benefitted from being eaten right there and then, to maximise crunchiness, at least.

The filling – You can see the generous dose of chilli on top, which gave the fresh kick of spice that I like. The ground pork wasn’t chewy as you may expect, which was definitely a positive. However, the other additions inside didn’t necessarily add anything to the Banh Mi itself.

The bottom line

banmi 3

Is it worth travelling from Taipei to Yonghe just for this? Not by itself, no. But, if you combine this as a light lunch to then follow with this incredible egg pancake spot the other side of Dingxi MRT station, then I would say it is absolutely worth it! Make sure to use Google Maps to get their latest location.

Is it worth an Ubereats if I am in the mood? Yes, I think it is a solid option for an Ubereats to scratch an itch. If you’re in the Yonghe/Zhonghe area in New Taipei City, or even if you’re in the Wanhua or Zhongzhen area of Taipei City, you’ll likely find it relatively inexpensive to get Ubereats to deliver it for you.
